About Mukhrai
Here we are at Mukhara’s beautiful Kunda in Mukharai Village. Mukhrai Mukhrai is a Village in Mathura Tehsil in Mathura District of Uttar Pradesh State, India. This is the village of Kirtida’s mother known as Mukharai Rani or Mukhara. One day, Srimati Radhika asked her father if she could visit her grandmother, Mukhara, and with her grandmother’s permission, she stayed in Mukharai Village for some time. Each day, she would go to Kusum Sarovara to pick flowers and make garlands. Sometimes she and her sakhis would travel to nearby Kunjervan Village where they would make elephants from sand and play with them. One day, Radharani went with Her girlfriends to Surya Kunda to worship the Sun God. When She returned to Her grandmother’s home, Her grandmother noticed that Radha’s bangles were missing. Distraught, and worried that She had left Her bangles at Surya Kunda, Radha was unable to sleep and cried through the night. Eventually exhaustion overcame Her and She fell into a deep sleep. The next morning She awoke to find Krishna at the door with Her bangles.
Charkula Dance
Charkula logo represents the traditional folk dance of Utter Pradesh named "CHARKULA". The Charkula dance is associated with the Braj area of Uttar Pradesh and in particular with the village of Mukhrai in Mathura.
This female dominated dance is performed during the monsoon and the other occasions of festivity. The faces of women are veiled. The inspiration for the dance is believed to have come from Radha’s grandmother, who is believed to have run out of her house with wheel on her head to give the news of Radha’s birth. While dancing, women carry a multi-tiered heavy wheel on their heads.
This wheel has 108 oil lamps placed on the rim of each wheel and pots in the center and its waight ranges about 50 KG. While women dance , the men sing rasia folk songs in honour of Lord Krishna.
The instruments used in this dance are Nagara (drum), Algoza ( wind instrument), Thali (brass plate used for beat), Bansuri (flute) Majira, Khartal (cymbals) and harmonium.
